Did you know that Walt Disney World Resort actually expands over about 47 square miles?
That’s right! After being quickly surrounded by a “concrete jungle” out in California, Walt Disney wanted to make sure that it didn’t happen again when he started the plans of building a second Disney theme park. In the 1960’s Walt started secretly buying up land near Orlando, Florida under several different names. By the time he was finished, roughly 30,000 acres had been purchased for the construction and future expansions of Walt Disney World.
To this day less than about one third of the land has been developed, with another quarter designated for a wilderness preserve!
Wow! Even with Walt Disney World having four theme parks, two water parks, five golf courses, two shopping and recreation complexes, an ESPN Wide World of Sports complex, and over 30 resort hotels, Disney has yet to run out of space!
It makes me excited to see what they will do with it in the future!
I guess it’s not such a small world after all.
“Here in Florida, we have something special we never enjoyed at Disneyland…the blessing of size. There’s enough land here to hold all the ideas and plans we can possibly imagine.” Walter. E Disney
