“Who helps you do big things?”

We had dinner with some really great friends tonight. They have two boys {ages five and two}, as well, so the house was loud and chaotic and…loud. But it was fantastic, and made me realize that I am totally ready for this more kids thing. I’m so excited to see how God is going to grow our family.

Then tonight, as Jack was picking out his nightly digest, I suggested, “Hey, buddy. Would you wanna read your Bible again? Maybe we could read about David.” To my surprise, Jack piped up, “He’s king!”

Whaaa?

Thank you, Waumba Land of Southside Church. Wow. Thank you. My two-year-old, that only tells me about his fishy cracker snacks and fights over bouncy balls when I ask him, “What did you do in class today?” is listening!

So my heart was sailing as we climbed into his twin-sized bed and snuggled under red, white, and blue star-covered sheets. My kid was excited to read his Bible! We read through the story of David and Goliath and we knocked the picture of Goliath on the forehead as David threw his stone. Jack listened to every word. And just so you know, I didn’t skip any {you know how we parents do, when it’s way past bedtime and we are just ready for this to be over}.

“Who helps you do big things?” {Last month’s bottom line in Waumba at church.}

“God.”

“That’s right, baby. Just like God helped David defeat Goliath. And God is with you wherever you go.”

“Yes.”

Wow. I always knew I wanted to have these conversations with my children. I just didn’t know what they were going to do to my heart.

With love, Malorie
